New Mexico

New Mexico flagYou're New Mexico!
A fan of spelunking and cliff-dwelling, you're the adventurous, enchanting type. It seems like you can never avoid the sun, but that's what built your house in the first place so you'll manage. You probably speak Spanish, and maybe even a long-lost language in addition. And after much careful consideration, you now sometimes agree that drive-through liquor stores are not the safest idea. Even though people think of you as yellow, your favorite question is "red or green?"

Pentecost 9

This morning we had bilingual worship again, but this time was about one hour long. Following worship we had a congregational meeting that didn't take too too long--early on in the meeting I even got a very nice certificate for my VBS leadership (teaching the English-speaking adult class)!!!!! A fun and tasty picnic followed everything.

That's today's basic blog.

450 Salem Western Avenue

Cross-posted from sun country living.

450 Salem Western AvenueIf you've lived or worked or gone to school in the general Boston, North Shore, South Shore, etc. area, you're well-acquainted with the fabled public trans system, usually referred to as MBTA (pronounced as an actual 3-syllable word) in everyday parlance; the extensive MBTA network includes light rail, subway, buses and boats. The MBTA's current Route 450, West Lynn via Western, runs from Salem's Commuter Rail Station to Haymarket--same basic route as when I lived in the illustrious city of Salem on Boston's North Shore. In those days I always took the MBTA 450 whenever I was going into downtown Boston for a day or to school at UMass. Check out the link for history and fun facts! For all of those three years, I lived on Federal Street on the top floor of an amazing Federal-style house.

VBS Day 5

This morning at Old Condo Shadows we had a great time--I got to pray a sending-mission prayer (5 imtes worth!) over the Bears the kids stuffed to send to kids in Africa; later on, in the evening at Left Right in the City we had some excellent foodies for dinner and I got to help everyone put together how (maybe) we can be a sacramental presence in the lives of others.

My Personality Cluster

Another blogthings for sort of a placeholder--I believe the spelling should be ExtrOverted, but whatever. I'm an ENFJ, and I really like these quiz results a lot!

Your Personality Cluster is Extraverted Intuition

     You are:

A true wordsmith - a master of words
Original, spontaneous, and a true inspiration
Highly energetic, up for any challenge
Entertaining and engaging, both to friends and strangers

My Season is Spring

Maybe; but at least this blogthings gives me a spaceholder!

You Belong in Spring

Optimistic, lively, and almost always happy with the world...
You can truly appreciate the blooming nature of spring.
Whether you're planting flowers or dyeing Easter eggs, spring is definitely your season!

3/4 nonconformist

You Are 75% Non Conformist

You are a pretty serious non conformist. You live a life hardly anyone understands.
And while some may call you a freak, you're happy with who you are.

Only 56% Massachusetts

You Are 56% Massachusetts

You're likely a Massachusetts transplant. Big rotaries still scare you, and you probably live outside of 495.

Can You Feel the Love Tonight?

from The Lion King, of course:

There's a calm surrender
To the rush of day
When the heat of the rolling world
Can be turned away
An enchanted moment
And it sees me through
It's enough for this restless warrior
Just to be with you

[Chorus]

Can you feel the love tonight?
It is where we are
It's enough for this wide-eyed wanderer
That we got this far
And can you feel the love tonight
How it's laid to rest?
It's enough to make kings and vagabonds
Believe the very best
There's a time for everyone
If they only learn
That the twisting kaleidoscope
Moves us all in turn
There's a rhyme and reason
To the wild outdoors
When the heart of this star-crossed voyager
Beats in time with yours

[Chorus]

It's enough to make kings and vagabonds
Believe the very best

Not Messy!

Yesterday I did a BIG bunch of blogthings quizzes and some from another site, providing needed blogfodder to keep this 365 thingie going--this one says I'm not messy!

You Are Not Messy

You're so clean, people have accused you of being a clean freak!
You like things tidy, organized, and smelling fresh.
Messes drive you crazy, especially when you didn't make them.
It's hard for you to live with a slob - or someone who leaves their dishes in the sink.

As long as it's high energy and competitive, you're interested
You have the perfect personality for business and athletic success

Earth Day Stamps: Artist's Statement

This year's County Fair closed a couple days ago on the Fourth of July; I now have my ribbons and rosettes in my possession, so I thought I'd blog part of the Artist's Statement I wrote to accompany my blue-ribbon winning Earth Day Stamp Series.

Earth Day StampsEarth Day Stamps AS

Software:

Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; Adobe Acrobat for final presentation and printing

Concept:

With Earth Day on the horizon, I looked through my digitized analog art and chose some favorites. Each design illustrates an aspect of humanity's stewardship of creation: a small wood frame house along the beach; young plants growing up strong out of healthy soil and into the sun; a city abounding with healthy trees and gleaming in the sunlight; laundry hung up to dry in the sunny air on the roofs of an inner-city apartment building.

Process

For each individual stamp, I started by opening a PDF stamp outline template in Illustrator and then opened the palette of my favorite Pantone colors, which I work with most of the time. In Photoshop I opened a jpeg or png of each of the four images I'd chosen, selected a slice of the image and then pasted it onto a layer in the Illustrator file. For the denomination (55¢), USA and my domain name, suntreeriver dot com, I used the same font, Cooper Black, on all the stamps. Although each image was a different size, I also unified the group by included a gradient background on each stamp.

For final presentation, I pasted each stamp into a separate layer of a new Illustrator document and then saved it out as a PDF.

Another image from the series I blogged wholesale on sun country living!

House 02

Despite a modicum of "Placeholder" blogs, I'm doing reasonably well with blogging every day, though some of them have had to be pre- or post- dated due to lack of puter access. Given all of that, I now need to link to this blog from my other blogs!
