Southern Cross lyrics

Crosby, Stills & Nash; from the album, Daylight Again, 1982

Got out of town on a boat gon' to southern islands.
Sailing a reach before a following sea.
She was making for the trades on the outside,
And the downhill run to Papeete.

Off the wind on this heading lie the Marquesas.
We got eighty feet of waterline nicely making way.
In a noisy bar in Avalon, I tried to call you,
But on a midnight watch I realized why twice you ran away.

Think about how many times I have fallen.
Spirits are using me; larger voices callin'.
What heaven brought you and me cannot be forgotten.
I have been around the world, lookin' for that woman-girl
Who knows love can endure.
And you know it will.

When you see the Southern Cross for the first time,
You understand now why you came this way.
'Cause the truth you might be runnin' from is so small,
But it's as big as the promise, the promise of a comin' day.

So I'm sailing for tomorrow. My dreams are a-dying.
And my love is an anchor tied to you, tied with a silver chain.
I have my ship, and all her flags are a-flying.
She is all that I have left, and music is her name.

Think about how many times I have fallen.
Spirits are using me; larger voices callin'.
What heaven brought you and me cannot be forgotten.
I have been around the world, lookin' for that woman-girl
Who knows love can endure.
And you know it will.
And you know it will.

So we cheated and we lied and we tested.
And we never failed to fail; it was the easiest thing to do.
You will survive being bested.
Somebody fine will come along make me forget about loving you
In the Southern Cross.

I Will Call Upon the Lord

by Michael O’Shields

I will call upon the Lord, (I will call upon the Lord,)
Who is worthy to be praised, (Who is worthy to be praised)
So shall I be saved from mine enemies (So shall I be saved from mine enemies).
The Lord liveth, and blessed be the rock!
And may the God of my salvation be exalted!
The Lord liveth, and blessed be the rock!
And may the God of my salvation be exalted!

Magic Carpet Ride!

omigosh--we came back into class after break and Randall was playing this song--now it's Born to be Wild!

Steppenwolf

MAGIC CARPET RIDE

From the 1968 release "The Second"

Words and music by John Kay and Rushton Moreve

I like to dream yes, yes, right between my sound machine
On a cloud of sound I drift in the night
Any place it goes is right
Goes far, flies near, to the stars away from here

Well, you don't know what we can find
Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride
You don't know what we can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free
Close your eyes girl
Look inside girl
Let the sound take you away

Last night I held Aladdin's lamp
And so I wished that I could stay
Before the thing could answer me
Well, someone came and took the lamp away
I looked around, a lousy candle's all I found

Well, you don't know what we can find
Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride
Well, you don't know what we can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free
Close your eyes girl
Look inside girl
Let the sound take you away

Romans 11:5

I've been Photoshopping this old favorite graphic of a favorite scripture almost forever; as much as I like the subtleties of the first version, compared to the second with a bright layer style, it looks so pale!

Breakaway

...by Avril Lavigne. I love this song!

Breakaway

written for Kelly Clarkson

Avril Lavigne

Grew up in a small town,
And when the rain would fall down,
I'd just stare out my window.
Dreaming of what could be,
And if I'd end up happy.
I would pray.

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly.
I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky.
Make a wish, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away.
Out of the darkness and into the sun.
But I won't forget all the ones that I love.
I'll take a risk, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away.

Wanna feel the warm breeze.
Sleep under a palm tree.
Feel the rush of the ocean.
Get onboard a fast train.
Travel on a jetplane.
Far away,
And break away.

I'm spreadin' my wings and I'll learn how to fly.
I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky.
Make a wish, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away.
Out of the darkness and into the sun.
But I won't forget all the ones that I love.
I'll take a risk, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away.

Buildings with a hundred floors.
Swinging with revolving doors.
Maybe I don't know where they'll take me.
Gotta keep movin on movin on.
Fly away,
Break away.

I'm spreadin' my wings and I'll learn how to fly.
Though it's not easy to tell you goodbye,
take a risk, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away.
Out of the darkness and into the sun.
But I won't forget the place I come from,
I gotta take a risk, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away.
I should Breakaway.
Break away.

Listen to Your Heart

Listen to Your Heart | Roxette

I know there's something in the wake of your smile.
I get a notion from the look in your eyes, yea.
You've built a love but that love falls apart.
Your little piece of heaven turns too dark.

Listen to your heart
When hes calling for you.
Listen to your heart
There's nothing else you can do.
I don't know where you're going
And I dont know why,
But listen to your heart
Before you tell him goodbye.

Sometimes you wonder if this fight is worthwhile.
The precious moments are all lost in the tide, yea.
They're swept away and nothing is what is seems,
The feeling of belonging to your dreams.

And there are voices
That want to be heard.
So much to mention
But you can't find the words.
The scent of magic,
The beauty that's been
When love was wilder than the wind.

Check out my blog for Earth Day on desert spirit's fire!

I can't do better than that at this moment, esp since I've linked there to my blogs for Earth Day 2006 and Earth Day 2005.

Deep River

Currently I'm working out a piano styling of this expressive Spiritual:

Deep River

Deep river, my home is over Jordan
Deep river,
Lord, I want to cross over into campground
Lord, I want to cross over into campground
Lord, I want to cross over into campground
Lord, I want to cross over into campground

Oh, don’t you want to go, to that gospel feast
That promised land, that land where all is peace?
Walk into heaven, and take a seat
And cast my crown at Jesus feet

Lord, I want to cross over into campground
Lord, I want to cross over into campground
Lord, I want to cross over into campground
Lord, I want to cross over into campground...

Good Friday

This noon will be the last Eucharist of Holy Week--oh, you know I'm somewhat of a liturgy expert, even styled The Liturgy Queen?! This year again we're going against the usual liturgical norms, so despite the Church's historical practice of no eucharist between Maundy Thursday and Easter Vigil, today we'll be going for it anyway!

Thursday in Holy Week

...and, of course, Maundy Thursday in the evening. The Praise ( cannot bring myself to type the way they used to and maybe still do spell their name) Team did the music, which for my taste was much too Jesus and Me and My SUV, but Scott prayed the Eucharistic Prayer I wrote! BTW, somewhere on this blog I posted one of my early in-progress versions; here's the final one on desert spirit's fire.

Holy Ground

Wednesday in Holy Week--this was my postlude for our daily 12 noon Eucharist:

Holy Ground

This is holy ground ---- We're standing on holy ground,
For the Lord is present and where He is is holy,
This is holy ground ---- We're standing on holy ground,
For the Lord is present and where He is is holy,

We are standing ----- On holy ground,
And I know that there are angels all around,
Let us praise Jesus now,
We are standing in his presence, on holy ground.

Tuesday in Holy Week

Maybe you've noticed my new blog blandishments? I got the corner banner "As for me and my blog, we will serve the Lord," and the Image plus Psalm 119:11 on this far by faith as well as Scripture Snippets on this site and on desert spirit's fire! from Christian Women Online's extras, etc. (you'll need to click around to find what you want). Cool, right?

I Will Enter His Gates!

Sunday morning (that's just yesterday), for Palm Sunday, I played a rockin' piano version of this song for the offering.
I Will Enter His Gates | Psalm 199:2; Psalm 118:24

~~Leona Von Brethorst~~

I will enter His gates
With thanksgiving in my heart
I will enter His courts with praise
I will say this is the day
That the Lord has made
I will rejoice for
He has made me glad

He has made me glad
He has made me glad
I will rejoice for
He has made me glad

Betsy Day!

This actually is a post-breakup or been dumped, or whatever song, but I love its sound, so I'm posting it for today--Betsy Day!!!!!

There She Goes

There she goes, there she goes.

All dressed up and walking, you found somebody new.
I don't want nobody, I was happy with you.

There she goes.

I never said I love you, but you know that I do.
I can't believe it's over, I keep thinking of you.

I see her everywhere, everywhere I go.
I see her everywhere, everywhere I go.
There she goes, there she goes.

There she goes.

Don't know why she left me, don't know what I'll do.
I don't want no counsil, I was happy with you.

I see her everywhere, everywhere I go.
I see her everywhere, everywhere I go.
There she goes, there she goes.

I wanna cry, over you.

There she goes, there she goes.
There she goes, there she goes.
There she goes, there she goes, there she goes...

~~Chris Isaak~~
